Bonds, Chemical Bonds
nubs!! I think i'm gonna call y'all that from now on...
But anyways, today i'm gonna talk about Chemical Bonds.
well, you may think a chemical bond causes a chemical reaction which it does but they don't always look like this:
Chemical Bonds is basically what it sounds like. Atoms bonding, chemically! But it goes a little deeper than that, because that's just the way 8th grade science is. but as i state in every blog post, i hope you will better understand this topic by the end of the blog.
So quick review:
atoms are basically the nucleus full of protons and neutrons surrounded by electrons that are in shells, or clouds. each shell contains a different amount of electrons. 2, 8, 16, 32 etc.
oh ya, forgot to mention. Yea those electrons i mentioned earlier, well ya they move at the speed of light, so enjoy trying to look at it moving!
So. lets talk about how chemical reactions happen.
well first off, the atoms need to stick together! we call then bonds. (no not bombs!)
there are two main types of chemical Bonds: Ionic, and Covalent.
Ionic Bonds occur when one atom takes an electron from another atom. that atom who got the electron stolen, becomes positive, and the atom that took the atom becomes negative.
that is also an example of electrostatic attraction. (you have NO idea how long it took to spell that correctly!)
the two atoms are then, attracted to one another. A good example of that is Na Cl or sodium ion and Chlorine ion!
here's a pic of that ;)
Now, WHY someone would fall in love or be attracted to someone who stole something from them, i haven't the faintest clue, but people or in this case atoms, are cray cray.
Then there are Covalent Bonds. Basically When one atom is short of electrons connects with another atom, who then shares that electron so they live happily ever after. It's a pretty easy concept to grasp onto.
Ha-ha i made a joke, a really bad one too... because, the atom, grasps.. onto..another atom...im just gonna close with an example of that happening..
OK that's all i have for you today!
i hope you enjoyed reading, and if you didn't,
oh whale,
