omg. i just want to start this post off by saying how sorry I am. I haven't been on in 2 weeks! That is crazy. I really hope y'all will forgive me for that. we weren't assigned a topic for the last 2 weeks because its part of our state curriculum to talk about abnormal science. we talked about, Ghosts, Crop-circles( aliens), and telepathic animals.
Anyway... this week we're going to be talking about matter. but more specifically- the changing states of matter.
there are three different states of matter.
LIQUID
SOLID
GAS &
PLASMA
(we arent going to talk about plasma, I just wanted to list it. (plasma is lightning))
matter changes states with the temperature. If you add heat to ice, it melts. if you decrease the temperature to water, it freezes. every thing or all matter has its own unique melting and freezing point. even though the physical form has changed, the chemical makeup is still the same.
a good example for all of this is water. It's the most commonly used example for matter changing states.
Water can be found as:
ICE
STEAM &
H2O
There's this thing, it's called heat of fusion, and it's pretty cool. it's the amount of heat required to convert a unit mass of a solid at its melting point into a liquid without an increase in temperature. told you- awesome.
lets talk about when things change states.
Like I stated earlier, everything has it's own melting point and freezing point.
Ice's melting point is:0 degrees Celsius, or 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
Water's freezing point is also that^^ I know it sounds confusing, but that's just the way things are.
Now lets talk about some more terms!! (BTW I'm about 1/2 way done!)
there's Condensation, Sublimation, and Disposition.
Condensation- Condensation is basically a liquid (lets use water) that collects droplets on a cold surface when humid air is in contact with it. You can see an example of condensation on a glass of cold water on a hot day, or after it has rained and its very humid outside. as shown below, you could write stuff on the glass.
Sublimatation- a change directly from the solid to the gaseous state without becoming liquid. two words. Dry. Ice. Ice that skips the liquid state, and goes directly to the gaseous state.
Disposition- its the exact opposite of Sublimatation. it is a gas, turning directly into a solid.
so that summarizes the changing points of matter, or a teenage girl. Sometimes they're stable (solid) sometimes they're liquid (crying-duh) and sometimes they're a gas (pissed of and angry)
